Tesla podcast interview with a former Tesla autopilot engineer strong day for Tesla stock today finishing up 5.7% to 5% the off there's been a lot of news today about a single motor made in China model

three with longer range than the current standard range that Tesla is

producing at Gigafactory Shanghai currently. All the news on this today was

sparked by a Bloomberg article early this morning so we'll talk about that in a second.

But this topic as a whole is not new to us. We knew about a month ago that Tesla had applied for approval to manufacture that variant of the model 3 in China.

But this news has resurfaced today thanks to that Bloomberg article titled

quote, Tesla is nearing debut of longer-range China-Made Model 3, end quote.

Bloomberg's article says that Tesla actually plans to start. longer-range China-made model 3."

Bloomberg's article says that Tesla actually plans to start offering this version of the

model 3, quote, as early as this week, according to people familiar with the matter,

end quote.

What seemed to really grab people's attention from this story was

Bloomberg also saying, quote, the vehicle would have a range of more than 650 kilometers,

404 miles, on one charge compared with about 450 kilometers for the current most basic

version end quote so a 400 plus mile range model 3 which is certainly an attention

grabbing headline so is Tesla really about to start making a 400 mile range

model 3? Well, no, not yet, at least on the EPA cycle. So let's talk about this. Different countries use different

test cycles to measure vehicle range.

So there's the EPA in the US, there's the WLTP and the NEDC internationally.

And of those three test cycles, the EPA in general is going to give you the lowest range and in general is going to give you the most realistic real world range,

while the WLTP and the NEDC test cycles are going to generally show a higher range for the same vehicle.
