And Senate Republicans have assisted not just for months, but for years that this urgent crisis demanded action.

Now time for Congress to take action on supplemental national security legislation, it finally

meets those challenges head on.

That was Minority Leader Mitch McConnell publicly supporting the Senate bipartisan border deal yesterday,

but just hours later, the Republican leader would change his message in a private meeting of his Senate colleagues and the fate of the bill now very much in doubt.

Meanwhile, the GOP-led House is moving forward with its efforts to impeach the Homeland Security Secretary.

We begin this morning on Capitol Hill.

And in a striking turn of events, Senate Republicans now appear poised to block

the bipartisan border bill they themselves asked for and negotiated. During a special closed-door

meeting yesterday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell gave the green light to oppose tomorrow's

procedural vote to open the bill up for

debate, according to a source familiar with that closed-door meeting. Republicans in that gathering

told reporters afterwards that the conference needs more time to read through the 370-page package.

Meanwhile, the GOP's lead negotiator on the bill, Senator James

Lankford of Oklahoma, spent the day fighting back against his colleagues who are now openly

opposing the package. This comes as House Speaker Mike Johnson, along with House leadership,

say the bill would be dead on arrival in the lower chamber.
