We are coming on the air with breaking news right now on MSNBC. We've had a lot of developments

overnight, including Russian troops closing in on the capital of Kiev. It is now noon

local time there. It is 5 o'clock eastern time here in Washington. Here's what we know at this hour.

Pentagon sources are telling NBC News, the Russian military is now within about 20 miles

of the Ukrainian capital. Overnight, we heard explosions, saw and heard them throughout Ukraine,

including in Kiev, air raid sirens have been going off for what is now a second morning in that

country, and we are seeing more and more tangible fallout from this fighting with Ukrainian

president Volodomir Zelensky saying more than 100 Ukrainians have been killed. More than 300 have

been hurt. His main worry now is what he's calling saboteurs entering the capital. I'm Hallie Jackson

in Washington, along with our NBC news team in the region. Matt Bodner is live for us in Moscow.

Harcave, this is the sort of the, well, it's the second largest city in Ukraine, that it had been
