0:41.5	Hey, and everybody, good morning and welcome to way too early, the show that is marking this Tuesday to 2222. I'm Jacob Soberoff in for Jonathan Lemire. And as always,
0:48.4	we'll start with the news. In a dramatic escalation in tensions, Russian president Vladimir Putin
0:53.6	ordered troops into eastern Ukraine,
0:56.2	drawing condemnation from world leaders and the UN Security Council.
1:01.3	The move came yesterday after Putin signed a decree, formerly recognizing two enclaves in Ukraine's Donbos region as independent.
1:08.9	Densk and Lujansk are on the Russian border and have been
1:12.2	controlled by Russian-backed separatists since 2014. In a nationally televised speech, Putin
1:18.3	described Ukraine as a historic part of Russia that was illegitimately taken from Moscow. The
1:24.2	Russian leader directed his defense ministry to deploy troops in the two
1:28.4	separatist regions to carry out what he called peacekeeping functions. Putin's decision was seen
1:34.8	by the U.S. and its allies as a provocation and part of a pretext to invade Ukraine.
1:40.5	At an emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council requested by Ukraine, the U.S. and its allies sought to isolate Russia, calling the Kremlin's actions a blunt defiance of international law.
1:54.8	Russia's clear attack on Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity is unprovoked. In essence, Putin wants the world to
2:03.1	travel back in time, to a time before the United Nations, to a time when empires rule the world.
2:10.5	But the rest of the world has moved forward. It is not 1919. It is 22.
