Was Queen Victoria illegitimate? Queen Victoria reigned over an era of unprecedented modernization, industrial revolution, and colonization, which reshaped the world in countless ways. Her nine

children and 42 grandchildren went on to rule and marry in to royal houses throughout Europe.

Five of the surviving monarchs today are her descendants. But was Victoria really the rightful queen? In recent years,

her royal paternity has been called into question. Let's examine the evidence in this historic

mystery. And take a look at the royal family tree to answer the question, if Victoria's descendants aren't the rightful

monarchs of the UK, then who is? In 1817, Princess Charlotte, the only legitimate child of

the Prince of Wales, died at the age of 21, giving birth to a stillborn son.

This tragedy rocked the nation and set off a succession crisis.

Not one of King George III's 15 offspring had a single legitimate child among them who

could inherit the throne. Several of the sons had illegitimate children

with their mistresses, and Queen Charlotte was so attached to her six daughters that she didn't push
