Summary
After his divorce, he moved in with his brother while trying to rebuild his life. He was working night shifts at the time — sleeping during the day, awake at odd hours, constantly exhausted. At first, he blamed that for what he was seeing.
A little blonde girl standing in the closet doorway. A child running past the kitchen. Shadows stretching across the wall behind him when no one was there. He told himself it was stress. Lack of sleep. His mind playing tricks on him.
Until his son pointed down the hallway and said the girl was playing peekaboo from the bedroom door.
The final night, he woke up to find her standing beside his bed — pale, silent, and staring. The eyes weren’t glowing.
They were empty. What makes it harder to explain is that his brother and his girlfriend saw her too. Only… older.
