Summary

Welcome to Impact Theory, I’m Tom Bilyeu and in today’s episode my guest Michael Malice and I dive deep into the realm of societal norms, politics, and cultural dynamics to help you break free from the "factory settings" of default societal beliefs.

Michael Malice is widely known as an anarchist, author, and podcaster who challenges conventional views on political authority. Through his work, he pushes for a deeper understanding of the structures that govern us.

Together, we debate the impact of governmental actions on society, delve into the psychological underpinnings of human behavior, and ponder the potential of anarchism as a viable societal framework.

We also touch on:

  • - Transient cultural issues like transgender bathrooms and miniskirts
  • - Peoples’ resistance to thinking beyond societal norms
  • - Effectiveness of inflicting personal consequences in political change
  • - Mao, North Korea, and USSR historical context
  • - Implications of an anarchist system
  • - Voting as a ritual versus a practical tool for change
  • - Inevitability of hierarchy
  • - Anarchism and political legitimacy
  • - Thinking from first principles
  • - Intellectual curiosity in communication
  • - Armed populations as a defense against government overreach
  • - The status-seeking nature of humans and its manipulation
  • - Media narratives and trust
  • - Human behavior and political dynamics
  • - Risk of global hegemony and practical limitations

Whether you're a skeptic or an advocate of anarchism, prepare to have your beliefs examined and your assumptions questioned.

This is just Part 1 of our conversation, so make sure you don’t miss Part 2 of this convo for even more insights from Michael Malice.

I think the world would be a lot better place if more people understood that political authority is inherently illegitimate.

You got to care about this. Transgender bathrooms. What's your opinion? We didn't care about it five minutes ago. We're not cared about five minutes from now, but this is the most important thing happened in America right now.

It's impossible to convince a man of something if his salary depends on it not being true. And when those leaders have personal consequences very

quickly, they start changing them too. Michael Malice, welcome to the show. Thank you for having me.

I'm very glad to have you. And I want to ask you, would life be better,

0:40.3

the world be better if tomorrow instantly everybody became an anarchist to the best of their

0:46.9

abilities? And I mean in real life. The word better is a loaded word because I think a lot of people

0:53.0

when they hear the word better think

0:54.9

there's no cost, right? So I'll give you another example. Let's suppose I waved a magic wand

1:00.7

and instantly everyone's lifespan was exactly one year better or one year longer, right? Well,

1:07.4

you'd have a lot of kids dying at one year of age, right, who otherwise would have

1:10.9

been still born. So there's a huge cost there, right? So if everyone became an anarchist

1:17.2

the best of their ability, I don't know what being an anarchist the best of their ability

1:21.3

would mean for a lot of people. I don't think most people think philosophically or at all, but I think the world would be a lot better place if more people understood that political authority is inherently illegitimate and that we are all individual responsible and accountable for our lives and for our communities and things like that.

1:49.4

Okay, where the rubber mousseau road, how does it become better if more people think that government is illegitimate?

1:57.0

Because you would have far fewer police enforcing nonsensical edicts from sociopathic politicians.

2:04.7

You would have far more of an incentive and a mindset for people to form solutions to problems

2:13.0

that have otherwise been left to the mercy of the state, you would have no war.

2:20.0

You would have far more interest on the local level in getting things done and making

2:25.7

things happen.

2:27.7

And there would be a lot less animosity, which I think politics engenders in almost all of us

2:34.1

for the specific reason that if I am,
