We start today with a mind-boggling number, $813.5 billion. That's the amount of money appropriated by Congress

for the Paycheck Protection Program, or PPP, for short. You may remember companies that were

struggling to pay employees because of the pandemic could apply for the loans beginning last year,

and boy, did they. Through the end of

May this year, the program had paid out $800 billion in loans. In total, over $11 billion were

approved. Those numbers make it sound like the loans were easy to get, but for a lot of folks,

actually getting the money was quite a process indeed,
