Welcome to the Hockey PEOCast. My name is Dmitri Filipovich and joining me to close out the week in style is my good buddy, Shana Goldman.

Shana, what's going on?

Hey, thanks for having me.

So I thought it would be fun exercise for us today to close out the week.

We're a week removed from the trade headline.

I know you wrote recently a big, very insightful piece on the athletic

kind of along these lines, but to get a kind of lay of the land where everyone is right now,

post-edeline the way they've been playing in the first couple games since all the deals,

do a little bit of a vibe check on all the top contenders, the top teams, uh, sort of take stock of

how they've been using their new players, where they're at right now and kind of what the,

uh, the near future holds for them.

Let's, uh, let's start with the hurricanes because I feel like last Friday at the

traded line when they made the vehicle random Randinen trade and and shipped him off

to Dallas. They took a lot of heat for the way they handled the entire situation, having

Ranton in there for a pretty uninspiring 13 games, and then taking what was perceived as a pretty

big step back for the rest of this season

as Stanley Cup contenders kind of downgrading from him to a bunch of futures and essentially

Logan Stancoven. But since then, we've seen them play two games. They beat the Jets 4-2 at home. They

beat the Lightning 4-1. I believe they were up 3-0 in both those games into the third period.

And so two really impressive showings against two top teams.
