I ordered smoke on the big hill opposite so they couldn't see what we were doing.

We moved down through the town and got to the bridge.

While we were waiting, the Germans blew a big crate in the approaches, but we used bulldozers

to fill the hole and go right over it.

That, of course, was Brigadier General William B. Hoag, the commanding officer of Combat

Command B of the Knight Farmer Division.

And just before everyone starts getting worried that we're going back into the Battle of Bulge again,

don't worry. It's a little bit more simple, this one.

Remargan. And the truth is, it is a heck of a thing when you see it

in the flesh. It's a very dramatic location for such a striking bridge and such a discovery.

But anyway, but we're going to spend a bit of time on the bridge at Remargan in this opening

episode. We thought we'd start with what in journalistic terms is called a drop colour intro.
