Summary

Wellness + Wisdom | Episode 728

Is the real reason you’ve never felt ‘good enough’ hiding in the conversations you’re terrified to have with yourself?

Vasavi Kumar, Therapist + Visibility Coach, joins Josh Trent on the Wellness + Wisdom Podcast, episode 728, to reveal why speaking your truth out loud is the key to claiming self-worth and real freedom, and how daily mirror work, honest self-talk, and embracing your authentic voice can shift the trajectory of your life, relationships, and mental health.

"Many people struggle with having a cluttered mind. You need to say it out loud. Get it out of your head. Get it out into the ether. Don't keep it inside. Allow yourself to say the thing that is taking up space in your mind so that you can have a mind that actually is thriving and peaceful within." - Vasavi Kumar

We all have access to that voice inside of us, but things in our head get so loud because of society, because of programming, because our parents' voices.

And that's why I say in my book, in order for you to access that voice inside of us, we have to say it out loud.

So many of us struggle, actually just being real. Yes. Just being ourselves. At the core of it all, there's some piece of self that's feeling either unseen, unloved, or not enough, or not worthy. Is there a starting place or an access point in most people where their voice truly lives? So I stand in front of the mirror naked. I call the naked out loud. The mirror will always show you where you're not being kind to yourself because the minute you start scanning your body and you're like, oh, I look like this or I shouldn't look this way, you can actually pause that dialogue and you can choose to reframe it and be kinder to yourself in that moment. We're allowing ourselves to say the thing that

is taking up space in our mind so that we can have a mind that actually is thriving and that's

0:58.3

peaceful within. Is there specific phrases or incantations to use words to move you in the direction

1:05.1

of your purpose? What is one big part of how you used to be where you were in fear about saying things out loud that is manifested into who you are now?

1:17.7

Okay, so I want to actually talk about how I used to be in romantic relationships.

1:21.5

I know I said I didn't want to talk about romantic relationships on this podcast, but who I was in romantic relationships really embodies who I used to be. So in romantic relationships, I was the pick me girl. I can't believe that I'm even admitting this right now, but I used to be the one that like I just wanted men to choose me. And because of that, I didn't really speak up for what I needed. Now, in other areas of my life, when it comes to my work, when it comes to my business, you see me on social media. If I'm hosting something, if I'm seeing something, I'm like loud and outspoken. So work life was always really easy for me. But personally, in my romantic life, that's when I used to really keep my mouth shut and not speak up for what I needed. And I'm not in a romantic relationship right now. So we don't know how I'm going to be

2:01.8

in a relationship, but I do know that I no longer suppress my needs and I no longer say, oh, I'm fine,

2:08.7

it's okay. I now have boundaries and I now speak up for what it is that I want. Yes, boundaries are

2:14.0

literally life-changing. Yeah. And so much of your work. So the book that's on the screen right now is called Say It Out Loud. And this is like not only listening to who you are from a soul perspective, but also having the courage to pursue the voice that you hear. It reminds me of Joseph Campbell's journey where the boy gets the phone call. And I don't know if you've seen the movie Finding Joe. No. My audience is like, dude, we've heard this a thousand times.

2:35.2

Well, this is going to be a thousand and one.

2:50.8

We get the call. Sometimes we don't have the courage to actually hear what's there. Yeah. And so in order to say it out loud, there is a maturation process where we develop the courage to actually speak what we believe is true. But then first, we have to actually decipher a no.

2:51.7

Is it our soul's voice?

2:52.9

Is it the collective voice?

2:54.4

Is it mom and dad's voice?

2:51.1

Yes. Whose voice actually

2:56.0

is it? So many people come to you because they're struggling, finding their voice. But is there a

3:01.5

starting place or an access point in most people where their voice truly lives? I feel like if you can stand in front of the mirror and you can talk to yourself and you can

3:10.8

actually see back your reflection and like the person that you are seeing back, you can tap

3:16.9

into that part of you that we all have.
