And we're very pleased to welcome Nuri Turkle the author of most recently no escape

the story of China's genocide of the Uyghur people.

This is the Uyghurs.

You know them very well. We've talked about them before.

Nuri is here to update us on what is to be done. It's keyed on my learning from an article in Newsweek right now by Gordon Chang. So I asked

Gordon to frame the story. There's a photograph of a large container ship

applying the waters of what we presume is American ports loaded

up to the top with containers.

What does that ship represent, Gordon, when regard the genocide of the Uyghurs.

Good day, John.

Well, it represents the genocide of the Uyghurs,

Kazakhs, and other Turkic minorities, because BYD cars inside of that ship are made in part

with forced labor of Uyghurs and other Turkic minorities.

The Tariff Act of 1930 bars the importation into the United States of any goods made in whole

or in part with forced labor, and that act has been amplified by the Uyghur

Force Labor Prevention Act of 2021. And clearly these cars should not come

into the United States.
