Summary
Daryl and Taylor go in-depth to review the USA's disappointing/frustrating/infuriating/depressing 2-0 loss to Canada. Why would you play 2 central midfielders against 4? Why would you substitute Pulisic with the scored tied and 30 minutes to go? Was DeAndre Yedlin aware this was a game and not a pre-match scrimmage? All that, plus constructive plans for changes we want to see going forward.

| 0:00.0 | Hello and welcome to a very disappointed total sucker show. |
| 0:21.5 | My name is Daryl Grove. |
| 0:23.4 | I'm in Boston, and I'm joined by a man who's in Richmond in our studio, and I'm going to assume is not happy. |
| 0:30.3 | It's Taylor Rockwell. |
| 0:31.8 | Hello. |
| 0:32.4 | You are assuming correctly. |
| 0:33.8 | Prior to the USA Cuba game, I pushed in all my chips on Greg Burhalter, and that seemed to work out. Now it feels like I pushed them all in. I won the hand, and then the casino exploded. It's about where I feel like I am right now. The casino are asking you to pay up and you don't have the money to pay them back, and they're going to break your knuckles. I mean, that would be like if we were coached by Joe Pesci. In this case, it's like, no, I have the money. And then it's like, before I can even cash out and enjoy it, horrific things happen. And now I don't know how to feel anymore. Oh, so in case you haven't guessed from the intro, we're here to review the 2-0 away loss to Canada in the Conquer Calf Nations League. The good news is I guess we're still in position to qualify for the Gold Cup. Yeah, there's that. Second place in the group. Yeah, and now we know that the Nations League matters, I guess, because we have to win these games. Yeah, the way we're going to do this, we're going to talk tactics, right? Because tactics were a huge part of this game. And, you know, quick spoiler alert, Herdman got his tactics very, very right for Canada. Bear Hilton, not so much, I think is our basic working theory. We'll get into the details of why we think Hurtman's tactics worked and why Greg Bearhelter's did not. We'll of course analyze the goals. |
| 1:46.7 | And I think I'd also like to talk later, Taylor, about if Greg Beerhalter has a sort of |
| 1:51.5 | come to Jesus moment and thinks, oh, I need to change some things up. What could he do to make |
| 1:56.5 | things better? Okay. So are you ready? Let's talk tactics. I feel like we don't need to |
| 2:02.6 | describe the US tactics because they're the exact same thing that we've seen ever since |
| 2:06.4 | Bear Halter took over. Is that fair to say? Yeah. I mean, more or less, like you don't have |
| 2:10.2 | some of the variations we've seen, but generally speaking, yeah, back four, four, four two |
| 2:15.2 | defensively. It seemed a little bit less high energy and high |
| 2:19.3 | pressing than it was against Cuba. It didn't seem like we had as many numbers committed as far forward |
| 2:24.4 | as we as we have when there was success. He tried to change that, I think, in the second half. But at |
| 2:29.1 | least in the beginning, it seemed like a 4231 sort of becoming a, sort of becoming a 4-4-2. |
| 2:34.4 | Yeah, about standard from what we've seen so far. |
| 2:37.0 | It's the same thing where the right back in this case, Yedlin, would get really far forward. |
| 2:40.9 | And we've got the left attacking sentiment was Western McKenny, |
| 2:44.6 | kept that spot from against Cuba, Pulisic on the left wing, |
| 2:48.5 | and then roll down as like the number eight, sometimes |
