Summary

At just 24 years old, Betty Cayouette’s dream brands like Disney, Valentino, HarperCollins are seeking her out for collaborations. While working as a videographer for companies like Aerie and Williams Sonoma, Betty’s first TikTok, in which she portrayed herself as the main character of one of her favorite books, went viral.  Users on the platform instantly took to her original idea and Betty gained 200,000 followers in just two weeks! Her account, Betty’s Book List, has made her one of the most popular book influencers on TikTok and Instagram and she is beloved by both the Gen Z and Millennial markets.

Betty has incredibly valuable advice for female entrepreneurs who are interested in this emerging platform. She acknowledges that TikTok can be intimidating for new creators, but insists that starting from scratch is actually beneficial. Creating content around a subject where you can educate or entertain, and that you are very passionate about is a must.  And, by starting with a clean slate it’s easier to train your algorithm and get your videos to the right people.

On this episode of Dear FoundHer, Betty shares her experience and advice for making viral TikToks, the best way to monetize the platform, and her must reads of the moment.

Quotes

• “The hook is the most important part because people either watch or scroll after the first two or three seconds.”(7:38-7:43 | Betty)

• “What you’re doing on TikTok, the topic and your niche, really transcends all demographics." (11:51-11:58 | Lindsay)

• "I’ve made my own luck. When I got my job with Aerie, I did the reach outs.  I was reaching out to them until they gave me an internship that didn’t even exist. Then I was staying in touch. I was doing the work to make that opportunity happen.”(21:24-21:45 | Betty)

• “Make sure that your own well being comes first. Never feel bad about working harder than those around you if you’re passionate about what you’re going out to get." (40:58-41:22 | Betty)

the journey is worth every single second that you put into it. I'm Lindsay Pinchuk, host of the Deer Founder podcast. I say this

0:23.3

because I've lived it for over a decade. I started my first company with $500 in my pocket and a

all things starting, growing, nurturing, and in some

0:39.7

cases even selling a business. Together with some of my closest contacts, I'm here to help you find

your own success, whatever that means to you. The ride as a founder is the ride of your life.

1:02.0

today's incredible episode, I just want to take a second to say thank you. Today's episode is

1:07.7

all about growing a community and it's very important to me that I take a

minute to thank the one right here. Your continued support in listening and sharing this

1:16.2

podcast has helped me to support so many of you in so many ways in just a few short months.

1:22.8

The other thing that I want to say thank you for is really the greatest gift that this community

1:27.9

has given me since I left the company that I founded last summer. So in recently creating a

1:35.1

group workshop, many of you came to me asking me for ways to work with me one on one.

1:39.6

And so I created these three opportunities and I put them out into the universe. I did exactly what I tell

all of you to do every single day. My schedule is filled for June and I'm close to a wait list for

1:51.9

July and August. So I cannot say thank you enough because your belief in me is so appreciated.

1:58.3

And from that, you know, I've created these three one-on-one options for working
