What news?

Well, my soccer team's not doing well,

and they had to fire their coach yesterday.

And, you know, so it's a little bit of a bummer.

They haven't won in nine games, I nine straight so it's you know yeah you

wish things were going better on the field but that's what it goes so last time we were

talking John we would we were looking at Saipan and the kind of awfulness of that battle but that's not the only

battle by any strategy imagine in the Mariana's campaign 80 years ago this summer of 2024 and you thought it would be a good idea to have a look at the next

big battle which is the one for Guam which is a fascinating battle also because it had been American territory before the war.

That's right.

Yeah, so the Japanese had grabbed Guam in 1941, the tiny US garrison there.

But there's an airfield, isn't there?

That's an airfield.

And a naval base, too, a really nice naval anchorage,

which of course, I guess is what it attracted the Spanish way back when.

You know, and obviously the Americans get it from the Spanish as a result of that war in

1898.
