Hey there from CNN. I'm Chris DeBo with the five things you need to know for Tuesday, February 25th.

The U.S. joined with Russia in voting against a UN resolution condemning Russia's war in Ukraine yesterday on the third anniversary of the war.

That's after French President Emmanuel Macron met with President Donald Trump at the White House

to try to inject a dose of reality into his U.S. counterpart's ambitions

to end the war.

Macron stressed the U.S. and Europe both want the same thing, but warned of Russia's

poor track record of keeping its commitments.

This peace must not mean a surrender of Ukraine.

It must not mean a ceasefire without guarantees.

This peace must allow for Ukrainian sovereignty and allow Ukraine to negotiate with other stakeholders regarding the issues it affects.

But Trump offered no mention of security guarantees for Ukraine or for Europe,

instead portraying himself as a master negotiator in search of a deal.
