In a major policy shift, the US President Joe Biden says he'll support a European proposal

to train Ukrainian pilots to fly advanced F-16 fighter jets.

He made the promise that the G-7 world leaders summit in Japan where Mr. Biden said the

US Air Force would also train Ukrainian pilots.

The country's President, Vladimir Zelensky, who met Mr. Biden at the gathering in Hiroshima

hailed the announcement as an historic decision.

As Gary O'Donohy in Washington reports, 15 months after Russia launched its full-scale

invasion of Ukraine, Mr. Zelensky is finally getting his wish.

Few details have been given about where and how many pilots will be trained, and ultimately

who will supply the actual jets.
