Israel's military is telling the sum 1.1 million civilians in northern Gaza to evacuate to the south today, ahead of a possible ground

invasion.

Hamas is telling Palestinians living in the besieged Gaza Strip not to leave their homes,

while Israel's military warned civilians

the militant group is using them as, quote,

human shields.

The UN says this mass evacuation order

is impossible without major humanitarian consequences.

Here's UN Palestinian refugee relief spokesperson Tamara Al Rifai.

These are ordinary Palestinians who live in the Gaza Strip with their families including pregnant women, children,

children with disabilities, all of them on the run because they're looking for safety.

White House National Security official John Kirby says it's a tall order for Israel

adding the US doesn't want to see any civilians hurt. I don't think anybody's

underestimating the challenge here of affecting that evacuation but it's pretty clear that what they're trying to do is

to the maximum extent possible, avoid civilian casualties, and also separate Hamas from the human

shield.

Israel also has amassed some 300,000 reservists along its southern border, but has not

confirmed whether it is planning an intensified military operation.

Palestinian authorities say more than 1,700 people have been killed from Israeli strikes,

while Israeli officials report Hamas's terror attacks over the weekend killed more than 1,300 people.
