Summary

Howdy folks. In lieu of a narrative episode this week (while I recover from the quadruple-length Battle of Kadesh), I wanted to alert you to an interview I did for the Autocrat podcast (available on Spotify, YouTube, and the Autocrat website). In a lengthy conversation, we explore the full gamut of Egyptian history from the Creation, through Pharaonic era, the Late Bronze Age Collapse, and up to the Roman Empire in Egypt (and the "last hieroglyphs" ever recorded). It's a fun conversation, please check it out! Autocrat Podcast Website. I include an excerpt from the interview here about a recent article discussing Hatshepsut's shattered statues. Additionally, Dr. Colleen Darnell the Vintage Egyptologist will be joining us on the show soon to discuss New Kingdom military hero tales. Dr. Darnell runs regular online classes about ancient Egypt, which you can find at her website. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

There won't be a new narrative episode this week.

The Battle of Kadesh was a mammoth undertaking, and I'm a little bit beat.

0:38.2

Hopefully you are enjoying, or enduring,

0:44.7

that quadruple-length offering and absorbing the tales of a most dramatic conflict. We'll pick up with Ramesses and the Egyptian armies next week. In the meantime, I wanted to alert you to two things.

Firstly, I recently did an interview with the Autocrats podcast. This is a podcast

0:56.8

devoted to Roman history, but I recently sat down with the host Vince to discuss some of the

1:02.8

influence of ancient Egyptian history on the later Roman traditions, and of course the Roman Empire

1:08.9

within Egypt, and how cultural norms from the time of the

1:12.4

pharaohs persisted during that foreign occupation. The conversation ran for about an hour and a

1:18.2

quarter, and we went from the very beginnings of Egyptian history and the mythological creation,

1:23.8

all the way up to the Roman imperial era. So it's a pretty wide-ranging and detailed conversation.

1:30.9

I've included a snippet of this interview after these announcements,

1:34.2

so if you'd like a taster, that will be in just a moment.

1:38.4

Additionally, Dr. Colleen Darnell, commonly known as the vintage Egyptologist,

1:43.5

will be joining us soon on the

1:45.0

podcast to discuss ancient Egyptian historical fiction, when scribes would compose tales about

1:52.0

the pharaohs, generals, and military exploits from the New Kingdom era.

Colleen has asked me to alert you to her series of online classes, which she runs regularly

2:02.9

via Zoom on a variety of topics.

On August 21, Dr. Darnell will be running a talk about Ancient Egypt at the movies,
