In this edition, I take a wander up a hill I'd never really noticed before in Aberdeenshire.

Barra Hill near Old Meldrum was introduced to me through the writing of Ian Grosse,

which I came across in the literary journal Echtry.

When I first started looking into the hill, I was curious about the name of Old Meldrum and where that comes from.

And I found out that the meldrum is from the old Gaelic Mieldromer, or Mildrim,

whether it's Irish or all Scottish Gaelic.
