The head of the UN's Human Rights Watchdog has said he's determined to engage with the

authorities in Beijing over allegations that their treatment of weas and other Muslims in the

Xinjiang region could amount to crimes against humanity. The report commissioned by his predecessor

was arguably the thornous item among many in Volkotirks' intray when he took over as UN Commissioner

for Human Rights in October. Today he said he'd continue to, as he put it, reach out to China.

The report that was issued on the 31st of August is a very important one.

It has highlighted very serious human rights concerns and my focus is on following up

on the recommendations that are contained in the report and for me it is also a very key

that of course we will and I will personally continue engaging with the authorities and

I believe in I'm very determined to do so. Hope springs eternal for changes. That's what I can see.
