writing with the National Post about the United Nations, what needs to be done.

Conrad, the list is long of the failures of the United Nations.

Right now, the Gaza conflict, the whole Middle East is brittle and the United Nations is gasoline on a

fire. However, once upon a time it was great expectations. Franklin Delano Roosevelt's

vision was a body that could solve problems aggressively and bring together

the best minds and the best intentions.

Where it veered off the course after Franklin Roosevelt left us, was the colonial

powers freeing all these states who were never going to be democratic with their

apparatus in place. They were always going to be

dominated by gunman and money and and what you'd have to say is kleptocracies.

And the UN has no way of defending itself.

Well, that is right.

You know, Roosevelt had been a relatively senior figure in the Wilson administration and he supported the League of Nations.

And he came to the conclusion at the time of the First World War and as a man who spoke French and German fluently and used to go to Germany every year with his father who went to the spasler because of a medical condition that he had.

And Roosevelt concluded that if there was not an American presence in Western Europe and the Far East.

There was a danger of both those areas falling
