In other words, while America votes, the war in Europe continues.

However, the prospect of a new administration in January will very much dominate the conversation

in these last 80 days or so of the Biden administration.

I welcome Colonel Jeff McCausen, United States Army, retired artillerymen, CBS News, visiting

Professor Dickinson College, CEO, Diamond Sixth Leadership and Strategy.

We go immediately to the battlefield where there are reports of advances by Russians. At the same time,

there are reports, Jeff, of North Korean combat troops engaged in some fashion. I've

heard they're engaged. In the Kursk Salient, I've heard they're engaged over a wide front.

So the first business here is Ukraine losing ground to the Russians

and the Denska-Luhansk Front. Is that significant this late in the year? Good evening to you, Jeff.

I think it is significant, John, because around Pukrovsk, which is a significant logistical hub for the

Ukrainians in southeastern Ukraine. So the loss of

that city and the transportation network could hinder their ability to defend the area as we go into

the winter. And second of all, of course, time is going on. The month of October saw the Russians

being more successful in total land that they have acquired than any month since we get back into

2022. That being said, the Russians continue to pursue an attritional strategy and don't seem to

be able to mask the reserves whereby they could exploit a major breakthrough if one was, in fact,

to occur. And then finally, of course, the loss of Pukrovsk and this continued ability of the Russians

to gain territory must be sapping Ukrainian morale.
