Thank you. Foreign Policy's editor-in-chief. This is FP Live. Welcome to the show. You might sometimes hear Russia's war in Ukraine described as a stalemate.

Loyal followers of this program will know that that's not quite right. War is different than chess. Unlike stalemates in chess,

which are final, the battle in Ukraine is very much live. There are constant ebbs and flows,

and there aren't just two players, there are many. In general, in this war, Ukraine has seemed to

first weather the storm and then find the right moment to strike

back. That moment, we hear, is coming up again soon, a likely spring offensive by Kiev. But

despite a surge in support from the West this year, Ukraine still says it needs more long-range

missiles and fighter jets, attack-ims, and much else.

It's a fraught debate. How much should Washington do?

Is incremental support the way to go, or should it just go all in?

And how much does the answer to that question determine whether Ukraine's spring offensive works out.
