This is CBSI on the world I'm John Bachelorette with

Anatole Leven, my colleague. He's at the Quincy Institute for Responsible

Statecraft and we're observing outside of the Ukraine battlefield.

There's a contest, an information warfare contest, a diplomatic contest,

for the global south's attention during this conflict that is

draining the resources of the global north into the second year of the war.

And yet Anatole Lebrick's meeting in South Africa, Brazil, Russia, India, China,

and South Africa is notable because there is entertainment, I read, that there will be new

people, new countries invited, the two that got my attention immediately are Argentina,

which is deeply in debt and facing an election next year. A critical election, everyone is

critical when you're in Argentina. And Venezuela, a failed state from the point of view of the

United States. What is the bricks for Russia, for Russia right now? How does it hope to use

this bricks meeting? I note that that Mr. Putin will not attend, but that is a secondary matter

to the long term. Well, what Russia would like the bricks to be is an alternative to the G7,

as that is to say, a grouping of leading states around the world, which is not dominated by the West.

Or it must be said by China, because one has to remember that India is also part of the bricks,

that includes Russia, and therefore can allow a measure of independence,

but an independent block that will push back against what Russia sees as China too, and even
