I welcome Brad Bowman of the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies to comment on war in Ukraine.

But first Brad, 9-11-2001-9-11-2023, where were you that day?

What do you recall? Good evening to you.

John, John on September 11, 2001, I was a US Army officer and helicopter pilot stationed at Fort Belvar, Virginia.

I was commander of Charlie Company 12th Aviation Battalion, which was a Black Hawk unit.

That day I made the decision to fly a couple of our helicopters to a base about 30 minutes south so we could do a 9-millimeter range.

When we got the news of the first towers hit, like a lot of Americans we thought was an accident.

Then when we got the news about the second we realized our nation was under attack.

So we ran back to our helicopters really quickly and got back to our base of Fort Belvar knowing that we would be conducting missions that day.

During that day I managed my unit's efforts to get this senior department defense leaders outside out of DC because we feared another attack was coming.

And then that night I put myself on a mission to go pick up a deputy secretary defense Wolfowitz at a hide site.

We thought we were going to take him to the CIA headquarters when we picked him up.

He said, no, no, I want to go to the Pentagon.

Tonight on the night of 9-11 when almost every other aircraft or country being grounded, we were flying along with the fighter and the AWAC down the Potomac River and circled the land at the Pentagon.

And the heel pad that I would land at once or twice a week had been destroyed was at the point of impact.
