happiness everywhere in Moscow even though the facts would seem to suggest

mourning. We're told that by Keith, via London, that Russia has sustained 300,000 casualties

in the fighting in Ukraine. However, there is reason to believe that the Russian forces now are gathered for winter

and expect the Ukrainian forces to struggle to get into the spring occasion.

We're told, for example, that the artillery shells are not coming adequately to keep the fire up from the Ukrainian side.

There's a general understanding that Russia does not

have to advance. It can hold on to what it has and talk to Keith about partitioning the country.

So I report that the economy in Russia is not strong.

It is a war economy, and no one at this point is going to complain.

Mr. Putin has indicated that he will run for another term on his own ticket without joining

a party and extend himself another six years.
