Pope Francis is facing a barrage of criticism over his comments suggesting Ukraine should consider itself defeated and

should negotiate an end to the war with Russia. The Saudi King has used his

Ramadan message to call for an end to what he described as brutal crimes against Palestinians in Gaza.

It's not the first time that Pope Francis has been criticized for his remarks on the war in Ukraine,

but the head of the Roman Catholic Church has sparked fresh controversy by suggesting that

Kyiv should negotiate with Moscow after more than two years of war

following Russia's invasion of the country. The Pope's comments were in an interview

recorded last month but released on Saturday. In that interview the Pope said the strongest one is the

one that looks at the situation, thinks about the population, and has the courage

of the white flag. The word negotiate is a courageous word.
