It's a special edition of the Unofficial 40. For the first time in a long time, no coronavirus talk on the podcast. But we are joined by longtime media favorite Zack Sanchez who gives his perspective on that turbulent spring during 2015 when the team turned in their helmets for the right to protest after a racist incident rocked the OU campus. We talk with Sanchez about what it was like then and what the team is facing now as social unrest in intertwined with athletics all over the country. We also wanted Zack to give us some insight into his days at OU including what it was like to watch Trevor Knight and Blake Bell battle to replace Landry Jones before the start of the 2013 season and a much rumored incident between OU and Clemson before the 2015 College Football Playoff game in Miami. 0:04.6	Josh McQuition, our own, is out on the road, going all throughout Oklahoma, seeing the top talent in the state
0:11.0	and looking maybe for some new faces that might impress so instead of our
0:14.2	usual studio show we put together something a little bit different I had a chance to catch up
0:19.3	with one of my favorite players to interview when he was at ohU. That's former Sooners defensive back,
0:24.6	Zach Sanchez. Sanchez is currently working with his own trucking and logistics business back home in Texas,
0:30.8	but he's also prepping to head back to the CFL this season so he's still in the game as a football player and he's also an often outspoken voice on social media about some of the issues going on with sports and race.
0:42.6	And so, Zach and I sat down and had a conversation recently
0:45.8	where we looked back on that spring of 2015,
0:49.4	and that was the spring of the SAE racist chant incident on campus.
0:55.1	The team rallied around each other, decided to stay off the practice field
0:59.8	and fight for social change.
1:01.7	And that was a very turbulent time. So the current climate something Sanchez is familiar with
1:07.2	We talked about what the team went through then and what they'll be going through now and his faith at Lincoln Riley and even
1:13.5	Thai Darlington who went through that with him would help how they would help along
1:18.4	the way so they'll be able in his words to lead this program through through this pretty turbulent time
1:25.3	for young black men all across the country. Now it's not an interview that's full of political rhetoric.
1:30.4	It's just Sanchez talking about his experience as a young black athlete in this country.
1:34.4	So his story and his viewpoint or something that I think everyone could benefit from hearing.
