Early this morning, the United States and Israel launched a major military attack on Iran,

striking dozens of targets across the country, including the capital of Tehran.

Strikes have been reported near the president's residence,

and extensive damage has been reported at the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khomeini's compound. He has not been seen publicly for weeks, and his current

whereabouts are unknown. Iran has begun what it is calling a, quote, crushing response against

the United States and Israel. Iranian state media reports that retaliatory missile strikes

have been targeting multiple U.S. bases in the region.

Iran has also launched multiple major waves of missiles and drones at Israel, which the Israelis

say have been shot down. Meanwhile, sources tell Reuters that oil companies are suspending

shipments through the volatile strait of Hormuz on Iran's southern coast, where one-fifth

of the world's oil passes on its way

to world markets. It's notable, by the way, that the Strait of Hormuz at its narrowest point

is only 21 miles wide. So that is an important development. These attacks follow joint

U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran last summer that you'll report, that you'll recall.

But what I'm showing you, what I'm going to show you in a second, you're looking in pictures

Well, as of right now, we have seen a few hours that have included aerial defenses being fired

in this commercial hub in the United Arab Emirates, home to the long-haul carrier Emirates and popular
