0:00.0	Welcome to the lead. I'm Jake Tapper today. Some hope a new vaccine on the horizon,
0:05.6	COVID cases and hospitalizations trending down and a plan from the Biden administration to
0:10.4	provide masks to people in vulnerable populations here in the US who may need them. We're going to
0:15.2	start with the healthy today and those three promising signs as we try to get out of this pandemic.
0:20.3	First, in days, the US could have its first single dose COVID vaccine after the Johnson and Johnson
0:26.4	version cleared a major hurdle. The FDA said today that the J and J vaccine is safe and effective.
0:33.4	Next, a CDC estimate that always seems to predict more bad news is finally making a prediction
0:38.5	in the other direction now forecasting the pace of deaths will slow down even further.
0:45.2	All encouraging signs in the battle against this virus that has stretched the better part of
0:49.8	a year now as CNN's Amber Walker reports. A third vaccine on the horizon in the US.
0:57.2	We will waste no time getting this life saving vaccine into the arms of Americans.
1:02.7	The Food and Drug Administration announcing today the Johnson and Johnson vaccine
1:06.8	meets requirements for emergency use authorization, which could come as early as Friday.
1:12.4	The White House COVID Task Force on Wednesday saying they've already started preparing for
1:16.9	distribution. If authorized, we are ready to roll out this vaccine without delay.
1:21.8	If an EUA is issued, we anticipate allocating three to four million doses of Johnson and Johnson
1:28.7	vaccine next week. But that's less than what the White House was originally expecting.
1:33.7	We were surprised to learn that Johnson and Johnson was behind on their manufacturing. As you
1:38.8	noted, it was kind of reported earlier to be about 10 million and now it's more like three to four
1:43.4	million doses that they would be ready to ship next week. Experts say they expect the potential
1:49.7	third vaccine to expand access and get more people vaccinated faster because it's a single dose.
1:56.0	My suspicion is is that it's going to start with those people who are lower risk for severe
