We've talked about the impact that the media can have on the outcome of a criminal case

of the past as the investigation into the Brumbag murder starts in earnest.

And the fact that law enforcement decides in short order that the Hunter Sherman murders

and the Brumbag murders are connected by the common denominator of the pathology department

of Creighton University, I can't help but start to think back on just how much of an impact

the media and Omaha had an Anthony Garcia's ability to receive a fair trial in Douglas County

Nebraska.

It's just another one of those things that sticks in my craw.

As I often find myself wondering if I have a client on death row that is innocent, the

timing of us reaching this part of the tale with Casey Anthony speaking for the first

time since her highly publicized trial, which has caused me to go back and research that

case so that we can give you all a thoughtful and well-researched episode of the Docket

after it airs, which we will.

Part of what I decided to do in terms of research is that I'm going to read Jose Bias'

book, Presumed Guilty, which details his experience of defending Casey Anthony.

Now we all know that somehow she was acquitted of murdering her sweet little girl, Kaylee,

and the pretrial press in that particular case was overwhelming and none of it was good.

At least with respect to the public's opinion on whether or not she was guilty of the crime.

It was pretty much unanimous in the court of public opinion that she was a monster and

had killed her own child so that she could live the life that most 22-year-olds lived,

which is carefree and kid-free.
