See dealer for full details. The Republican led Michigan Senate has adjourned without voting on whether to more than double the state's gasoline tax to improve the roads.

Senators met for a rare session yesterday and talked behind closed doors about a plan to gradually increase the 19 cents a gallon gas tax to 43 cents a gallon by 2018.

The tax is part of a plan to raise $1.5 billion more per year for our roads.

It's the third straight voting day that senators haven't voted since they amended a house road funding plan back at the end of May.

Lawmakers may adjourn next week for the summer. Some Republican senators opposing the gas tax hike prefer asking voters to increase Michigan sales tax from 6 to 7 percent dictating the extra revenue for roads.

That would require two thirds of lawmakers to vote. So what would you rather have the gas tax or the increased sales tax?

Oh man, that's a tough one. I think the gas tax is targeting drivers. So you are specifically getting the money from the people that are using the roads to me that makes more sense.

Yeah, I think I'd probably prefer gas tax and sales tax even that extra one percent can add up on a big person.

Sure can. Yeah. Like at the most, I'm going to, you know, buy what? 20 gallons of gas a pop? You know, but you go buy a couch or something or car car car.
