But first, here's our roundup of today's top stories. It's Tuesday, January 28th.

Starting with our top story, Washington State is again suing the Trump administration, this time

over its proposed funding freeze. A judge temporarily blocked

the freeze in a separate lawsuit today, but Washington and 21 other states are trying to fully

prevent the freeze before it kicks in next week. Scott Greenstone has more.

After a White House memo promised to pause federal funding Tuesday, local lawmakers and non-profits scrambled to figure out whether deposits for things like rent and food assistance would still arrive in Washington.

State Treasurer Mike Peltiotti said the freeze is not only illegal, but, quote, insane.

It is not stable. It is not anything that would lead to functional government. It is bad

for the economy. It is bad for the operations of government. But we're going to be taking every step

we can in the state of Washington to make sure that we continue to operate. Pelchiati has been

preparing for potential federal funding cuts for some time. He even asked the Biden White House

to extend some contracts unsuccessfully.
