First, here's the roundup of today's top stories. It's Tuesday, February 4th.

Washington Senator Maria Cantwell has voted with her fellow Democrats against confirming Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

As the Health and Human Services Secretary, Republicans on the Senate Finance Committee, did win the party line vote, 14 to 13.

On the Senate floor, Cantwell said Kennedy wasn't qualified to lead the country through a health crisis.

I need someone at HHS who is going to say we're going to be a leader in medical, technology, science, vaccines, and I don't want a calcitrant.

I need a leader, and that is why I'm voting no.

Kentwell said she was especially concerned about Kennedy's remarks during the hearing about

vaccines. Kennedy has voiced skepticism, conspiracy theories, and untruths about vaccines in the

past, and he refused to tell the committee that there was plenty of evidence that vaccines work.

The committee vote advances Kennedy's

nomination to the full Senate. Snow is the other news on everyone's minds this week. Despite some

heavy snow in the mountains to start February off, Washington's snowpack is still below normal levels.

Caroline Mallor is with the State Department of Ecology. We are still at 87% of normal

for the snowpack across the state. She says snow levels are compared with averages over 30 years.
