I'm going to be very brief here and say, this whole situation is on me.

I feel terrible for Gerard because I put him in an untenable situation.

I know that he has all the tools as a head coach to be successful in this league. He just needed more time before taking the job.

In the end, I'm a fan of this team first, and now I have to go out and find a coach who can get us back to the playoffs and hopefully championships.

Ramifications of a 4-13 season in Foxborough, the fourth overall pick and a new head coach will be coming in.

Before we get into what I think is the most germane topic going forward,

and that's how you marry up the next head coach with a personnel department that's going to be intact,

what were your impressions today of Robert Kraft's time in front of the media, Phil?

I mean, he just came right out. I thought that was a perfect

way to start it. This is on me. It was untenable. I put him in a bad situation. Own it,

own and own and own it. Accountability, I thought, that stands at the top for me in terms of

what we saw from him. It's what he should have done. It's something that I basically asked for.

There was a point in time a week ago or so where there was a lot of letters being written by different

people, the media, you know, to the crafts, as though they were the crafts, trying to talk to the fans.

And what I said was this is not a time for letters. And I know they put one out last night.

But this is a time to wear your heart on your sleeve, speak emotionally, speak passionately

to the fan base, lay out a clear direction. And I think he did that. And it was interesting,

Tom, too. You know, he does not ever want to separate himself from the emotional
