Summary

In this live episode of Sunday Zen, we dive deep into the themes of trust, surrender, and the Threads of Awakening model introduced by Dr. Pierce Salguero. I've been reflecting on how traditional spiritual models can leave us feeling lost, stuck, or even scared, and how Pierce's approach offers a more inclusive framework that resonates with my own experiences. We share insights on the different threads—emptiness, energy, unity, and psyche—and how they manifest in our lives. We discuss the challenges of spiritual ego, which I've grappled with myself, and discuss the role of psychedelics in opening new pathways of understanding. And we touch on the importance of embracing the unknown as the true entry point to the nature of reality. Sounds so spiritual. Spirituality's total nonsense. It's also apparently helpful at stages stages i hope you guys had a chance to check

can show up during what we call the awakening, which is all just words to describe this indescribable thing.

And it is very conceptual.

But what I found from the feedback that I got from that video in my own sense with Pierce's model,

1:12.5

and Pierce has got years and years and years of experience with all these different spiritual

1:15.8

traditions. And in the end, it kind of all is coalesced into this map that he devised. That's very

1:23.4

different than this many of the maps that a lot of different traditions have, which have

1:27.4

stages of awakening. Here he's like, well, it feels more like there's different flavors that

1:32.7

he calls threads that seem to show up. And you can be kind of anywhere on a thread. And all

1:38.9

of this is just kind of happening. You don't really do this, but it seems like different practices correlate. They kind of

1:46.1

show up with different threads, like the emptiness thread may correlate with meditation,

1:53.3

self-inquiry, asking the question, who am I, what am I, what's real. uh, the energy thread may correlate with practices like yoga,

2:04.2

certain Tibetan sort of body light practices, energy practices like chi gong and, um, certain, um,

2:12.6

Taoist practices. There's, there's a million of them, right? Um, and each of these sort of sort of threads, the other is the sort of unity love thread where you feel like everything is interconnected, not separate, made of love.
