Summary

We've all got demons that we carry into relationships; experiences from our past that can impact the way we do relationships in the present. Our past doesn't define us, but it can certainly have an impact on the kind of relationships we find ourselves drawn to. It can have an impact on who we choose to open up to, and trust. "But absolutely nothing in your life is beyond God's redemption" (TWEET IT!) If you find yourself struggling with trust issues in a relationship, you might find yourself asking: How do you determine if the problem is in your relationship, or if the problem is in you? How can you deal with trust issues when they seem to come up again and again? What can you do to bring healing into your past experiences, and hope into your present relationships? In today's show, I talk to Latoya, who finds herself struggling with trust issues with her soon-to-be-husband. Little by little, we find out how her past is influencing the feelings she's having, and I give her practical steps to help her overcome the grip that the past is having on her life. If you've ever struggled with issues from your past having an impact on your present relationships - then this episode is for you. Because like I said to today's caller: "Absolutely nothing in your life is beyond God's redemption" (TWEET IT!) Do you believe that healing can happen in your life? Will you receive that healing? Single, dating, or married, this episode has something for you! Tune in to today's show to hear licensed counselor, Debra Fileta, as she answers her caller through this unscripted conversation in the first Episode of the Love + Relationships Podcast. Hey, friends, welcome to the very first episode of the Love and Relationships podcast. I'm your host,

0:24.2

Deborah Felata, and I'm so excited about this new show and the amazing conversations we have

0:29.9

coming your way about all things, love, sex, marriage, dating, and singleness, and pretty much

0:35.9

everything in between. Whether you're single or dating or

0:38.9

engaged or married, we've got something for you. For those of you who don't know me, I'm a licensed

0:44.0

professional counselor and author specializing in relationship issues, and I'm here to take

0:49.9

your relationship questions. I've written hundreds of relationship articles across the internet,

0:55.6

and my relationship advice blog, True Love Dates.com, reaches millions of people with the message

1:01.3

of healthy relationships. And that's really what I'm passionate about. As I approach the topic

1:06.4

of relationships, I look at it from my perspective as a professional counselor, but always, always,

1:13.0

always rooted in faith. Because as a Christian, I believe there is so much power in God's

1:19.1

truth. And when you pair that truth with psychology, you bring your relationships to a whole new

1:25.9

level. Where this all started for me was partly through my job

1:30.3

as a therapist in working with individuals and couples, both Christians and non-Christians,

1:35.8

one thing became really clear, really fast, and it was this. Just because you're a Christian

1:42.6

doesn't mean you know what you're doing in relationships. In fact,

1:47.3

most people would say they really have no clue how to do relationships well. There are so many

1:55.3

people struggling with this important topic and they don't know where to turn or what to do.

2:00.7

I know this because I get hundreds

2:02.7

of emails and messages each week from people with questions, just like you. And that's exactly

2:08.6

why I'm doing this podcast, because I want to have these conversations with you. I'm excited to

2:15.7

offer a podcast where we can be candid together. We can be real together,
