Good evening from Washington, our Michael Steele in for Chris Hayes.

So the so-called Law and Order Republican Party is once again siding with lawless insurrectionist

mobs.

Today Republican Speaker of the House, Kevin McCarthy, met with the mother of Ashley

Babitt, the January 6th insurrectionist who was killed by Capitol Police after she tried

to break through a doorway leading to the House Chamber.

And it was clear that McCarthy didn't want to talk about it.

She just asked for a meeting.

Is that all it takes?

Because I'm sure there are a lot of mothers of young black men killed by police out there

who would love to sit down with the Speaker of the House and talk about police reform.

So why don't y'all just call the Speaker up and ask for a meeting?

Or is McCarthy only interested in throwing red meat to the part of his base that sympathetic

to the mob?

Or trying to make amends with them after he said Babitt's shooting was justified just a

few weeks ago.

One of the first things that Margaret Hillary said from the oversight dies was that Ashley

Babitt is murdered.

You can think Ashley Babitt was murdered.

Do you think the police officer who shot her was doing his job?

I think the police officer did his job.

For her part Ashley Babitt's mother said she spoke to McCarthy about those comments specifically.
