Straight into our first story, US President Donald Trump is touring the Middle East,

and during his stop in Saudi Arabia, he met with the new kid on the Arab bloc.

This was the moment Trump shook hands with Syria's president Ahmed al-Shara, a former al-Qaeda leader

who went by the name of Jalani.

There were then brief talks between the two men, chaired by Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman.

That meeting is all the more surprising, considering the US government had a $10 million

bounty on Al-Shara's head, one that was only lifted six months ago.

According to a White House spokesperson,

Trump asked Al-Sharah to deport, quote,

Palestinian terrorists and to work with the US

to prevent the resurgence of Islamic State.

He was also keen for Syria to sign that Abraham Accords with Israel,

that would normalize relations between the two countries.

For his part, Al-Sharah invited U.S. companies to invest in Syrian oil and gas.
