President Trump hasn't given up hopes of turning Greenland into red-white and blue land.

On Sunday, number 47 introduced Louisiana

Governor Landry as newly appointed special envoy to the island, a semi-autonomous territory

of Denmark, saying he understands how essential Greenland is to our national security. Landry

said he was honored to help make Greenland a part of the U.S. and that it shouldn't

affect his role as the Pelican state's governor. Denmark was less excited about the announcement,

calling the appointment deeply upsetting, summoning Uncle Sam's ambassador and telling Washington

to respect Danish sovereignty. Greenland has a largely self-governing population of around 57,000 people,

roughly the population of Key West Florida,

but relies on Denmark for defense, foreign policy, and around half of its annual budget.
