Summary

Trey Burton is in his 4th season as a tight end for the Philadelphia Eagles.

He played his college ball at the University of Florida, where he found himself as a versatile athlete playing multiple positions for the Gators.

As a freshman in 2010, Burton broke the Gators record for most touchdowns in a single game, finding the end zone 6 times against Kentucky.

Despite a lot of success with Florida, Burton would go undrafted in 2014 before signing as a free agent with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Burton has made the most of his time, both on special teams, and as a pass receiver for Carson Wentz.

The Eagles started 9-1 in 2017 with the best record in the NFL and expectations are very high in Philadelphia.

Trey is married to Yesenia and has 3 children.

On this episode of the podcast, we talk to Trey Burton about the Eagles hot start, where his faith in Christ began, why he's so unashamed about the gospel, the development of his quarterback Carson Wentz, and how he came to baptize his teammates.

My name is Jason Romano, and it is great to talk to Eagles tight-end Trey Burton on today's podcast. The Eagles riding high at 9-1 currently, best record in the NFL. And Trey, of course, played his college ball at the University of Florida. Once scored six touchdowns in a game. That's something we can talk about later. Played quarterback in high school, but now tight end in the NFL.

0:35.3

And we welcome, Trey, to the podcast. Trey, how you doing, man? Oh, doing well, bro. Thanks for having me. It is great to talk to you, and it's nice to see success on the field, not just God doing some great things off the field with you. But, man, you guys are rolling. We're taping this on November 21st in the Eagle Stand at 9 and 1 best record in the NFL.

0:37.6

How much fun? But man, you guys are rolling. We're taping this on November 21st in the Eagle Stand at 9 and 1 best record in the NFL.

0:57.7

How much fun has this season been for you guys?

1:00.7

Man, it's been great.

1:02.7

You know, this is my fourth year here in Philly and we've kind of taken our lumps and

1:08.5

our bruises, you know, the first three years and now finally, you know,

1:12.2

learning from a lot of our mistakes and, you know, constantly just trying to get better.

1:16.1

It's a lot of fun, you know, to win.

1:17.7

And my old college coach, Will Must Champ, would always say the fun is in winning.

1:22.7

So you can say we're having a good time.

1:25.8

Well, for me, I know from my time at ESPN, the best interviews we've done, we're always the ones talking to the guys after a win or when their team is playing well. It's never fun to have to do interviews when you're losing. And you guys have won a lot this year, 9 and 1. And I just wonder, aside from the record, obviously, how is this year different, say, compared to last year and the last few years that you've been with the Eagles?

1:49.4

Yeah, you know, I can't necessarily say that, you know, the locker room's that much different.

1:54.8

I feel like my whole time, my four years here in Philly, the locker room has been great.

1:58.5

You know, I couldn't have asked for a better team to be on. But I think, you know, the ball is bouncing our way a lot. You know, anytime you

2:06.8

are doing well in the league, you know, certain things have to go your way. And so we're getting

2:12.6

some calls, you know, obviously we're playing and executing at a really high level, and that also helps as well.

2:18.4

But we have great leaders, you know, in Carson and, you know, Malcolm Jenkins on the defensive side of the ball.
