I want to take you on a journey to one of my favorite lesser-known places in Japan, the sunning Sisenji-J-Jojuan garden in Kumamoto.

This place isn't just a beautiful garden, it's a living piece of history and a perfect blend of nature and culture.

I had the opportunity to film there for the BBC

travel show back in 2018. And as soon as you step into the gardens, you're greeted by an

overwhelming sense of peace and beauty. Dating back to 1636, it was originally created by the feudal

Lord Hosokawa Tadda Doshi.

It's designed in the traditional Japanese strolling garden style,

which means it's meant to be walked through and enjoyed from various viewpoints.

One of the things that struck me immediately was how meticulously maintained everything is.

and serene atmosphere. It's like stepping into a perfectly composed painting. One of the most
