Summary

U.S. politicians are trying to keep trans kids from getting the medical care they need to transition — and states are banning them from playing on the sports teams that match their gender. So we’re looking at the science here, and asking: are the medical treatments for trans kids dangerous? And do trans folks have an advantage when it comes to sports? We talk to Florence Ashley, Dr. Jack Turban, and Joanna Harper to find out. UPDATE 5/24/24: We have removed identifying information about the trans children we interviewed. UPDATE 5/17/22: A previous version of this episode incorrectly summarized a study from Seattle. We said those who got gender-affirming healthcare "felt better" after getting the treatment. 0:21.0	and focusing on the biggest show on the platform, the Joe Rogan Experience.
0:26.0	Today, we're looking into a topic that Joe Rogan brings up quite a lot.
0:34.0	And it's one that's been getting a lot of national attention recently too.
0:38.0	Kids who are transgender.
0:40.0	So, in January, Rogan had Jordan Peterson on his show,
0:44.0	saying that most of these kids coming out as trans today aren't really trans.
0:49.0	If you look at teenagers, for example, who want to switch genders,
0:54.0	95% of them are unbearably confused.
0:59.0	And back in July 2020, he brought Abigail Shryer on to his show,
1:04.0	a journalist who talked about how many of these kids are coming out now,
1:08.0	Polly, because they're friends are doing it.
1:11.0	And this is happening to parents all across the country,
1:14.0	teenage girls, all of a sudden deciding with their friends, their trans,
1:17.0	wanting surgeries and hormones and getting them.
1:21.0	And this fear of kids getting dangerous treatments when they don't need them
1:25.0	is something that Rogan has talked about for years.
1:28.0	For him, he seems to be worried about little kids, like even toddlers.
