Once freed from the Holocaust concentration camps,

Europe's Romani were not greeted with open arms but forced into ghettos that

resemble open-air prisons. The Romare punished by white society for not being more white.

Roma children are ridiculed at white schools while being taught that their families

and way of living. Well well that's all backwards.

With anti-immigration sentiment on the rise, the rise that Roma are increasingly the target of

extremist right-wing hatred and violence.

But again, it's not only the vigilante violence that

Roma are subjected to, but violence by the state. Like the recent death of 40 year old

Stanislav Tomash, who video evidence showed, died in police custody when an officer applied a

chokehold by kneeling on his neck. In the video a woman can be heard saying

screaming they're smothering him a man's voice

replies that's their job which is another violence Roma face every day in

Europe the violence of systemic and

institutional racism. Anti-Roma racism is so prevalent in Europe that even the

left will not support the Roma cause. After last summer's protests against racialized police violence, Europe's left still will not find common ground with the Roma.
