Second big day of racing in the Alps for the first summit finish of the 2018 Tour de France.

Albeville to La Rozier and it was only 108.5 so we expected fireworks and Chris Boardman we got fireworks

didn't we? Well I've had to say I wasn't sure we were going to get them I thought we might get another defensive day waiting for Abdures

so I was pleasantly surprised it was brilliant it was a proper GC fight it was going off all day it wasn't just a breakaway up the road and it was

wonderful and everybody got involved and it ended like this.

It's just gone straight past him. Thomas is going to take the win here at La Rozier

the first summit finish in the Alps and he is going to take the yellow jersey as well.

ride confirmation of everything we saw at the Dolphine this is a special moment for

Gerard Thomas he's had a career full of special moments don't forget but I don't

think we've ever seen anything like this deep deep into this Tour de France now

Garant Thomas in the form of his life has absolutely blasted up this mountain

and with consumer ease right past Mikonnieve takes the biggest stage win of his career on the Tour

of France and into the yellow jersey. Well mighty celebrate. That was brilliant.

Well, I think we imagined, possibly even as early as yesterday, it didn't happen yesterday,

but we imagined that the situation would present Gerrunt Thomas with the opportunity of taking his second yellow jersey after last year. But I don't think we imagined it would happen like that.

And going back to the GC race, Chris, it all kicked off, didn't it, when Alejandra Valverdi attacked on the third from last climb.

Yeah, and he had Saler up the road, he waited for him, and then did a massive job to get him to the last climb where he had absolutely nothing left, and it turned out, nibble he didn't either.

They caught up Tom Dumillow who had

slipped away on the descent and was doing a fantastic job, paced himself absolutely beautifully

and pushed himself right into contention for the overall in this race really made life difficult
