Good evening. A conversation with Anatole

begins the show tonight, a conversation about Ukraine, and the expectation

that decisions ahead are going to be challenging for all of Europe, for the United States, especially

for the Ukrainians.

The stalemate term these last weeks is now widespread accepted. The column that I especially paid

attention to a man named Ivan Krestev makes it very clear that only magical thinking believes that Ukraine can recapture

all of Ukraine for itself, all the territory that's been occupied by the Russians, that what is at hand is Ukraine

to make a very difficult decision about its future, a broken country, a broken country that afterwards can resemble Afghanistan

abandoned by the US and NATO, or can find another way to knit with the EU and

be the frontier but perhaps not be a member of NATO.

Anyway, they're really rough decisions and the Europeans are watching very carefully

as the American political conversation turns away from Ukraine, turns

to Gaza, and the presidential matter.

No longer as Ukraine celebrated in the halls of Congress.

In fact, it's hardly talked about if you hear the Republicans.

They reject more funds requested by the Biden administration.
