Tom versus the JLA number 178, or where do you pick up giant fighting chess pieces for reasonable prices?

Welcome back for Justice League America, number 178, the May 1980 issue entitled The Chess Master of Mars, written by Jerry Conway, art by Dick Dylan and Frank McLaughlin, Ben Oda the letter,

Gene DeAngelo, the colorist, Len Ween, the editor, featuring a magnificent cover by one Mr. Jim

Starlin.

The faces on this cover look fantastic, though if I had to criticize, it would be that the chess

pieces on the cover do not match the chess pieces in the issue. Hello,

let me go get my nerd glasses. Our roll call for this issue is Aquaman, the Adam, the Batman,

Black Canary, Green Arrow, Superman, and Zatana. We start off where we left off last issue. The league getting together

to discuss the fact that they're fighting giant chess pieces. We see Aquaman and the Adam arrive

on the satellite. Zatanna gives a convenient recap of what's happened and the fact that she's

pieced together the whole chess angle. Green Arrow is incredulous at this. As you can see, the character

in the last couple issues has taken an arc where he thinks it's more important for him to be dealing

with stuff like muggers and street-level crime, you know, drug dealers, people who don't pay

parking tickets, Nazi motorcycle gangs.

That's what he's about.

And he isn't exactly pleased with this whole cosmic chess game.

He thinks it's a bit silly, and he's going to go back to Star City to take care of problems.

But just as he gets up, the transporter, a giant chess piece.

Giant Bishop shows up in the transporter.

Knox Green Arrow out.

He then takes out Superman with some kryptonite raise,

which I feel incredulous about that.
