All the way back in January 2014, Tom von Lawler welcomed me into his home for episode 17 of an Irish man abroad.

It's fair to say, a lot has happened since.

From the rip-roaring success of Howie the Rookie to becoming one of the most evil characters in the history of the Marvel universe,

Tom has continued to work with

the same intensity and commitment that characterized his show-stopping performance as Nige in Love,

Hate. His new film, Rialto, is no exception. Written by another friend of the show,

the brilliant Marco Halloran, Rialto, is unlike anything I've

ever seen and grabs you by the back of the head from scene one.

I don't want to say too much here, but it tells the story of a man in crisis, Colm, and

he is grieving.

His father has just passed, and their relationship is grieving. His father has just passed.

And their relationship is ambiguous and dark.

And this character seems to be making many of the same mistakes with his own son.

I won't say anymore.

All I will say is it premiered to rave reviews at the Venice Film Festival, also stars Michael Smiley, Monica Dolan, Aileen Walsh, and the superb Tom Glinn Carney, who you will know from movies like Dunkirk and The King, but his Dublin accent, it's nearly worth going to see this film just to see how perfect he nails this accent.

It's just superb and it's directed by everyone's favorite Glaswegian director, Paul Mackey Burns,
