Whose Floyd Lawson you ask?

Well, you may know him as Floyd the Barber from the Andy Griffiths show.

Floyd the Barber, as you know, was the slow-paced, somewhat absent-minded Barber in the town of

Mayberry. But I bet you didn't know that Floyd was played by three actors.

Yes, sir, the character was introduced in season one and was first played by Walter Baldwin.

Baldwin was Floyd the Barber for all love, one episode. Norman McNair is the actor most

associated with the character. He took over the role and would play the character

of Floyd into the final episode of season seven. Floyd the Barber retired when McNair left

the show and the Barber shop was closed for good. Emmett Clark moved his fixate shop from his

home into the old Barber shop right next to the courthouse. So, where does the third actor

to play the character of Floyd come in? Well, midway through season three, Norman McNair suffered

a serious stroke and he did not return into the end of season four. While he was gone, there was

a quick scene of Andy and Opie walking out of the Barber shop. If you look in the window, you see

Floyd cutting hair, but if you look really close like it wasn't Norman McNair playing Floyd,

there was an uncredited actor standing in as a body double. After his stroke, Norman was paralyzed

on the left side of his body and he could only stand for short periods of time. He only returned

to the program at the insistence of Andy Griffith. The production crew made a special

chair for Norman if there were any scenes that required Floyd to stand. But most of the scenes

after the strokes off Floyd sitting on the bench outside of the Barber shop, since he couldn't move

his left arm, Floyd would be seen holding a newspaper or his hand would just be in his lap.

Norman and McNair died on January 3rd, 1969. While there may have been three actors to portray the
